Before we build your plan, it’s important to build your awareness. This section is about tuning in to why you’re doing this work, what challenges you may face, and how you’ll rise above them.

Write down your WHY. Explain why achieving this goal matters to you. What is driving you to commit to this 12-week journey? What do you want to accomplish? Why now? How will your life improve if you follow through? Be honest and personal. The more meaningful your reason, the more powerfully it will motivate you.

Write down obstacles that you anticipate. Obstacles are part of the journey — not a reason to quit. In The 12 Week Year, setbacks are viewed as valuable feedback. Whether it’s fear, procrastination, discouragement, or external roadblocks, your ability to pause, reflect, and adjust is what sets you apart. Build resilience by revisiting your vision, reviewing your progress, and recommitting with clarity.

Write down how you will push through your EXTERNAL obstacles For Example, Reconnect with your why and vision. Use your weekly review to reflect and realign. Ask yourself: What’s one small thing I can do right now? Use time blocks to protect your focus. Reach out for support and accountability.

Sometimes the biggest obstacle isn’t external — it’s the story we tell ourselves. When doubt, fear, or negative thoughts show up, pause and challenge the narrative. Write down the answer to these INTERNAL obstacles: Is this absolutely true? What else could be true? What would I say to a friend who felt this way? Replace “I can’t” with “I’m learning.” Swap “I’m failing” for “I’m figuring it out.” Tell yourself a story that empowers you to keep going.
